Sky Island Scope Project development
The Volcan Mountain Foundation's Sky Island Scope has been drawn by artist James Hubbell and executed by artist Bill Porter who is looking over the project. The purpose of the project is for students to learn to see the peaks of the County where they live and to appreciate the Sky Island aspect of Volcan Mountain which forms the eastern escarpment of San Diego County. As the project continues, it will have a pirate scope to see through and a plate that points to various peaks and islands. It is being constructed of local rock and will sit about 3 feet off the ground. It should be finished in the Fall.
Currently the project is moving forward as we pour the cement for the foundation for the rockwork which will follow later this summer. Much thanks to local volunteers Gary Gernandt, Sheana Fry, James Lydick, John Raifsnider, Sharyl Massey, Greg Hill, Kaleigh Kaltenthaler, Bradley Kaltenthaler, Terry Cox, Connie Newgard, Pamela Kearney and Tulay Ekins.
