Through February-Come Share the Love of Nature and Photography With Spencer Valley Kids With Cameras Students
Local Spencer Valley students were sharing their love of photography as they showcased their talents on Valentine's Day at the Julian library. The evening was led by "Kids With Cameras" brainchild, and Volcan Mountain Foundation Education-Outreach volunteer and Committee Chair, Jeff Holt. According to Mr. Holt, "The program was developed as a way to connect nature, art and technology for young people, focus and inspire a deeper understanding of how these subjects can interconnect, and create improved awareness of them through photography".
The most recent group of "Kids With Cameras" students were on hand to see their work on display and talk about their inspiration, their vision and what they've learned over several weeks of lessons from volunteer photography teachers Lance Moles, John Raifsnider, and of course, Mr. Holt. The lessons culminated in an exciting photography outing up onto Volcan Mountain. Spencer Valley teachers and parents, and community members and volunteers enjoyed the display of remarkable photographs from students in grades 3 through 7.
Spencer Valley School in Wynola helped launch the beginnings of the Volcan Mountain Foundation's current Education-Outreach program in 2007 with students participating in natural and human history education outings to Volcan Mountain, as well as in-classroom nature and history presentations about Volcan Mountain in partnership with local county parks staff and volunteers. Students, parents and teachers have also volunteered to help create and maintain portions of VMF's Sky Island Trail.
The photographs of Spencer Valley "Kids With Cameras" students will be on exhibit at the Julian library through the rest of February, so please plan on stopping by to see what wonderful work these very focused young people have created. Thank you to all of wonderful Volcan Volunteers and student photographers!
