2013 Volcan Mountain Foundation Advisory Board Meeting
November 2013 saw the Volcan Mountain Foundation Advisory Board convene on a beautiful fall day at Spencer Valley School in Wynola. Outgoing Advisory Board Co-Chairs, Diane Coombs and Pat Straube presided over the group, which welcomed new, as well as veteran, Advisory Board members. VMF is so fortunate to have such an incredible and committed group of community members and leaders to share their insights and expertise.
The Honorable Dianne Jacob, San Diego County Supervisor for District 2, attended in her San Diego Chargers apparel, looking to cheer on the home team later after the Advisory Board meeting. She sees the Volcan Mountain range as one of the last remaining pristine areas in the region, and wants to help it stay that way. As an update was shared on the new VMF Nature Center at the headwaters of Santa Ysabel Creek, Supervisor Jacob reminded the group that she is still pursuing her vision of a County Visitor Center at the base of Volcan Mountain in Santa Ysabel. Having served on the Advisory Board in an ex officio capacity for several years, she continued to share helpful ideas for funding sources, and committed to bringing together stakeholders to create coordinated resource management guidelines for Volcan Mountain.
Veteran VMF Advisory Board member and Executive Director of the San Dieguito River Park, Dick Bobertz, shared progress of the Coast to Crest Trail, and insights on connecting visitors from the coast to the Volcan Mountain crest. New Advisory Board members in attendance included, Lynne Anne Baker, Trish Boaz, Ann Keenan, Deborah Kerch, Howard Levenson, Dave Van Cleve and Judy Wheatley. Several VMF Board and staff members were also on hand to listen to the Advisory Board members’ input on topics ranging from VMF’s Education-Outreach and Resource Management programs, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, acquisitions, promotions and funding opportunities. At the conclusion of the meeting, Ms. Baker & Ms. Kerch were selected as the new Advisory Board Co-Chairs. The Volcan Mountain Foundation is so appreciative of all the participants for taking time out of their busy weekend to help guide the VMF in its efforts to protect and preserve Volcan Mountain.
