Volcan Fall Color and Close Area Hike, Saturday, October 14th, 8am-11:30am
Saturday, October 14th, join Ranger Doug on a hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve and then into a closed area of the preserve for a chance to see a part of the park normally closed to the public. Also, it's fall, so Mother Nature should have some fall color decorating the mountain by mid-October!
The hike is strenuous with a 1,500' elevation gain (all up hill) in three miles. If clear, there are terrific views from the Salton Sea to the Pacific Ocean.
Wear: sturdy hiking shoes and dress in layers as the temperature can change dramatically as we reach the summit
Bring: plenty of water and you might want a snack
Park: along Farmer Road and walk 300 ft. up the gravel driveway to meet at the Hubbell gateway at 8:00am
Location: 1209 Farmer Road, Julian, CA 92036; just north of the Wynola Road intersection with Farmer Road.
