There are stunning views from 'sea to sea'--the Salton Sea and the Pacific Ocean--once you get to the summit. This is a strenuous 5.5 mile hike, with a 1,000' elevation gain. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.
Meet at 9:00 am at the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve trailhead on Farmer Road; 1209 Farmer Road, Julian CA 92036.
The San Diego River Valley Conservancy has issued the Coast to Crest Trail Challenge to encourage hikers and bike riders to explore some of the San Dieguito River Park’s most iconic spots along the Coast to Crest Trail that extends from Del Mar to the summit of Volcan Mountain. The Coast to Crest Trail still has gaps, but once completed will provide a connected route extending 70 miles. Currently outdoor enthusiasts can travel about 45 miles of the planned route. The challenge will end June 30th, 2018. Those who accept the challenge must complete five designated hikes to receive rewards and bragging rights.
