Date:
Saturday, July 23, 2016 - 8:00am

Hike Volcan Mountain on Saturday July 23rd, 2016 with Trish Boaz, Executive Director of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy (SDRVC) as she leads a Volcan Mountain Exec Trek from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Volcan Mountain is the the headwaters of the San Dieguito River, and the crest of the Coast to Crest Trail!

Hike to the scenic summit of the county's Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve (VMWP). Take in the panoramic views while hiking the Five Oaks Trail. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of Julian, where on a clear day you can see the buildings in downtown San Diego and islands off the coast of Mexico and Southern California. From the summit you can also enjoy incredible views to the east of San Felipe Valley and the Anza-Borrego Desert.

Meet at the Hubbell Gateway of the VMWP at 8:30 AM. The Hubbell Gateway is located approximately 300 feet up the gravel road from the VMWP parking area on (1209) Farmer Road. This is just north of the Wynola Road intersection with Farmer Road. This hike is rated strenuous and includes an elevation gain of approximately 1,000 ft in 2 miles. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry plenty of water. Bring a snack or lunch for the summit.

Cost: FREE for SDRVC members; $15 donation for non-members.
