Wildcrafting: Botanical Wall Hanging - Sunday, July 28, 2024
July 28, 2024 – Wildcrafting - Natural Botanical Wall Hanging
Bring home the bounty of Volcan Mountain by creating a summer botanical wall hanging or wind chime from natural botanical items that we find at our nature center. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate the summer season and decorate your home or garden.
We will provide a variety of twine, ribbon, and macramé cord that you can choose from to attach your items, including pinecones, large acorn caps, leaves, or dried plants. We will also provide colorful beads and bells if you choose to make your hanging it into a wind chime. Janice will also teach a few simple macramé knots that you can use to create a cascade of knotted cords with the items you incorporate. Come and get creative with us!

Wildcrafting is the age-old practice of collecting or harvesting plants from their natural habitat, or “wild” habitat, for food, medicine, or craft. It applies to uncultivated plants wherever they might be found and is not necessarily limited to wilderness areas. Ethical considerations and sustainable behaviors are practiced, such as protecting endangered species and avoiding potential depletion of commonly held resources. The practice of sustainable wildcrafting requires making a commitment to develop your knowledge and connection to the natural landscape, deepen your local sense of place, and take responsibility for its regeneration for future generations. For more information, please watch VMF's 10 Best Practices for Foraging Wild, Edible Plants.
