April Guided Hikes & Trail Rehab Events
Spring is here and County Park Rangers kicked off the summit season with a Volcan Trail rehab day on Saturday, April 6th. There will be two guided hikes on Saturday, April 13th (2pm) and Sunday, April 14th (10am), starting from the Farmer Road staging area of the Santa Ysabel Preserve East Open Space Preserve.
The Volcan Mountain Foundation is hosting the Volcan Wonder Walk on Saturday, April 20th from 2pm-7pm, led by VMF Education Coordinator, and Outdoor Specialist, Kathleen Beck and photographer, John Raifsnider. Participants will hike to the Clint Powell Memorial Bench at the top of Volcan Mountain. The journey will begin at the Hubbell Gateway and include many magical moments of inspiring views and activities within the 1000’ elevation gain. Bring your camera! Initially offered as part of VMF's 2013 Dinner Dance fundraiser, this event is limited to 12 participants. The $40 cost also includes a picnic up on the mountain. Contact the VMF office for reservations: [email protected] or 760-765-2300.
On Sunday, April 21st rangers will meet at the Hubbell Gateway at 9:30am to host another Volcan Trail rehab day, and get the trail in tip-top shape for hiking season.
Remember to always wear sturdy shoes, weather appropriate hiking attire, and of course, bring water, sunscreen and hat. Inclement weather cancels all events. For more information contact the local ranger office at 760-765-4098.
