The Right Tools for the Job
The Volcan Mountain Foundation (VMF) is incredibly grateful to have support from a wide range of community partners. In January, when VMF needed to establish their own collection of tools to support student and community-based stewardship projects on Volcan Mountain, Ransom Brothers Hardware & Lumber Supply Co. in Ramona was once again ready with a donation. Their gift of brand new shovels, clippers, and loppers was immediately put to use as part of a wonderfully productive and enriching trail stewardship project with Spencer Valley Elementary School in Wynola. Students, parents and volunteers removed invasive species of non-native plants, built check dams to minimize erosion, and cleared and created a new section of trail. The delight from the students in combining ecology lessons and service learning with a healthy dose of fun was evident from the excited singing and laughing along the new section of trail!
