POSTPONED: Women in the Wild Hiking Workshop -- Volcan Mountain
POSTPONED -- Saturday, March 21: Women in the Wild Hiking Workshop: Level 3 (part 3 of a 3-part hiking series) comes to Volcan Mountain.
Due to the current concerns surrounding COVID-19, and county orders that wineries, breweries and bars close for the near term, the Volcan Mountain Foundation and San Diego County Parks and Recreation have determined that it would be most prudent to indefinitely postpone the Women in the Wild Hiking Workshop: Level 3 originally scheduled for Volcan Mountain this coming weekend.
As you likely are as well, we are dismayed to have to delay this outing. We're all having to make hard decisions right now, but public health and safety are of utmost concern.
Given the uncertain, and rapidly evolving nature, of the COVID-19 crisis, it's premature to consider a rescheduled date.
In the meantime, keep getting, and exploring, outdoors. Social distancing doesn't limit us as individuals and small family groups from going outside and getting exercise while still keeping space between one another. In fact, maintaining regular exercise is even encouraged to be better prepared to fight off the virus.
Join the Volcan Mountain Foundation and San Diego County Parks and Recreation staff for a moderate to strenuous 5.4-mile round-trip hike to the summit of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve -- with a 1,000 foot elevation gain. You'll be rewarded with amazing views -- weather-permitting, we'll see all the way from the Salton Sea to the coastal San Diego -- and enjoy post-hike wine tasting at Volcan Mountain Winery (attendees must be 21 or older)!
Learn the essentials of hiking while gaining knowledge about the preserve and local wildlife with other women!
This event is hosted in conjunction with County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, San Diego County Parks Society and the Volcan Mountain Foundation.
The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation's Women in the Wild program was created to teach outdoor skills in a fun, nurturing and non-competitve environment. Experiences are educational, interactive and fun -- building confidence and a sense of community, while fostering new appreciation for San Diego's parks, preserves and diverse recreational opportunities. Women in the Wild experiences are planned for women, by female staff members and partners. With events ranging from backpacking to bouldering, and hiking to camping, we're opening new avenues for conversation, connection and collaboration.
