Will You Go Out With Us On a Black Friday Hike in the Santa Ysabel Preserve? Friday, November 25th 9am
Black Friday, November 25th We are going to #OptOutside instead of shopping. Will you go out with us?
Maybe you're visiting Julian for the weekend, or maybe just for the day, or maybe you're a local! No matter where you're coming from, the countryside and mountain fresh air is the perfect antidote to the shopping frenzy!
Join the Volcan Mountain Foundation's Executive Director, Colleen Bradley, & VP, Eric Jones at 9am at the Farmer Road Staging Area of the Santa Ysabel Preserve East for a customizable hike. At minimum you can join in a 3-mile, easy to moderate guided-hike, that is suitable (and fun!) for families with elementary school age kids and up.
This stretch of the Coast to Crest Trail is fairly level to gently rolling as it meanders along next to Santa Ysabel Creek with cows roving through the meadows--it's an idyllic Julian country hike. The black oaks and sycamores may still be showing some fall color, and we might even see some wild turkeys or deer!
The guided hike will stop briefly at a mile and a half in, at the second creek crossing--the picnic table at this turn-around is great spot for a little rest or snack--and then head back to the trailhead/staging area.
For those looking to work off those extra helpings of turkey (or tofurkey!) and pumpkin pie, you can continue on across the creek. You'll climb to Kanaka Flat and the Kanaka Loop portion of the trail making an approximately 5 mile round-trip hike. The 'halfway table' is another 1.9 miles past Kanaka Flat which would make about a 9 mile round-trip hike--that means you can have your pumpkin pie and eat it too!
You can register here to let us know that you're planning to join us, and then we can keep you updated if plans change due to weather. www.volcanmt.org/optoutsidewithVMF2016
